چکیده

Additive manufacturing of porous Ti6Al4V (Ti64) parts is promising for biomedical applications. In this study, Ti64 scaffolds with two scales interconnected porosity networks were developed using a direct-ink writing process. Inks made by dissolving copolymer (Pluronic F-127) in water to obtain hydrogel, which was then loaded particles. Both Pluronic F-127 amount the hydrogel and solid loading influenced ink printability, as shown rheological measurements printing accuracy investigation. The best compromise obtained 25 wt% 50 vol% A partial sintering 2 h at 1200 ∘C led micropores within strut, characterised X-Ray computed tomography. Sintered presented compressive strength higher than bone, similar Young’s modulus. According their biocompatibility, final microstructure mechanical properties, these show potential load-bearing implants.

Biomimetic silicification of 3D polyamine-rich scaffolds assembled by direct ink writing

We report a method for creating synthetic diatom frustules via the biomimetic silicification of polyamine-rich scaffolds assembled by direct ink writing (DIW) [G. M. Gratson, M. Xu and J. A. Lewis, Nature, 2004, 428, 386, ref. 1]. A concentrated polyamine-rich ink is robotically deposited in a complex 3D pattern that mimics the shape of naturally occurring diatom frustules, Triceratium favus Eh...

In vivo bone response to 3D periodic hydroxyapatite scaffolds assembled by direct ink writing.

The in vivo bone response of 3D periodic hydroxyapatite (HA) scaffolds is investigated. Two groups of HA scaffolds (11 mm diameter x 3.5 mm thick) are fabricated by direct-write assembly of a concentrated HA ink. The scaffolds consist of cylindrical rods periodically arranged into four quadrants with varying separation distances between rods. In the first group, HA rods (250 microm in diameter)...

Hydrodynamics of writing with ink.

Writing with ink involves the supply of liquid from a pen onto a porous hydrophilic solid surface, paper. The resulting linewidth depends on the pen speed and the physicochemical properties of the ink and paper. Here we quantify the dynamics of this process using a combination of experiment and theory. Our experiments are carried out using a minimal pen, a long narrow tube that serves as a rese...
